Your Talents

Many know Jesus’ parable of the talents in Matthew 25:14-30 but few bother to read it with understanding. What is indeed a talent? A talent is a special ability given to a person by God for use and for improvement. It is an innate ability or a natural endowment bestowed on men and women from birth for fulfilling their destiny.

Unto every man is deposited at least one talent. Unto every man that comes to the house of God, is deposited a divine gift to promote God’s purpose. Unto every born again is given a divine ability to depopulate the kingdom of darkness and populate the kingdom of heaven.

This parable was one of the last things Jesus said when He was on His way to the cross. When men are about to leave this world, their words are to be taken very seriously because they speak from the depth of their heart. It is something that we should sit up to listen to and take notice of.

Talents are extremely valuable to God and if we do not put it to use in His own way, the repercussion could be very stern. Unfortunately, the church is gradually becoming a place where people go to be served instead of going there to serve God. This is very sad. A house of God is a place where we go to contribute and not a place where we go to take from.

We will only be rewarded in heaven for the ways we use our gifts here on earth. This is why Jesus told those fruitful people; “Well done, good and faithful servant.” What you are doing now, if Jesus comes to you; will He tell you well done or will He discipline you for not being a faithful steward of His grace bestowed on you. The ones who put their gifts into active service will be more equipped for further ministry and greater responsibility.
